So What’s Really Going On?

What’s behind the Old Menopause Mindset? Many things. Dr. John Lee, the late, renowned menopause and women’s health expert, identified a powerful one:
“Menopause as a disease has been largely fabricated by physicians and the pharmaceutical industry.”

How Could This Be Happening? |
It’s an old story, one I’m sure you’ll recognize. As a medical professional I can tell you that the medical and pharmaceutical industries have done great good for humanity. But sometimes they get off track and led astray. And so through a process called “medicalization”
- Difficult but normal life circumstances are wrongly defined as medical problems—(watch the ton of ads on TV), and then
- Expensive and often dangerous drugs are prescribed as the “solution” for these “medical conditions”.
Many medical physicians anguish over this as their passion is to help and heal, not to become drug delivery systems.
The Old Menopause Mindset that defined menopause as a medical condition that requires drug treatment—is like flat earth theory. Flat earth theory made great sense—until we discovered that the earth was round. The NEW Menopause Mindset rests solidly on many years of scientific knowledge, knowledge you can trust.
But knowledge of “discoveries that change mindsets” travels slowly. And it often meets with resistance by vested interests. The discovery that the earth was round and not flat took more than a hundred years to enter the mainstream. For a long while after science discoveries set flat earth theory aside, respected authorities of the day still warned people not to walk too far at night—so they wouldn’t fall off the earth.
Not long ago many physicians regarded hot flashes as non-existent—as a sign of a woman’s emotional instability. They prescribed medication for emotional problems. That’s a bit like missing the fact that the sun is so hot because it’s on fire.
We now know that hot flashes are real. Eighty to 90% of Western women experience hot flashes for more than a year, while 50% have them for six years or more. They’re driven by internal “temperature control errors” associated with hormone imbalance.
The Old Mindset was a “body-only” view. The NEW Mindset takes into consideration the scientific discoveries proving that the mind and body are an interdependent unit—the mindbody. Hormone imbalance and menopause problems can only be truly understood and remedied from a mindbody view.
